famous families

Malia Obama was at Brandon's theater today to see the show. He found out yesterday and called me immediately, demanding that I swear to twentybilliontimesover secrecy before he would tell me what was up.

He did talk to the secret service a bit and said they were really nice, and that even as he was chatting with them, their eyes never stopped darting around, looking at everything, everything, everything.

Wikipedia tells me that the Secret Service's name for Malia is Radiance. Who comes up with these names? I think that's just lovely.

  1. That name thrills me. I love the name "Malia," but "Radiance," I'm moved. I was thinking about this when I heard Obama's SS name, Renegade, which I also love . . . why have Secret Service names at all if the public at large is welcome to know about them?

Is it just to appeal to the secret clubhouse-building kid inside every Secret Service agent? I sort of love that, whether there's a reason behind it or not.
